Oscar Piastri has performed the best in qualifying during the 2025
F1 season so far, achieving the highest average qualifying result.
Across the 14 completed grands prix, the championship leader boasts
an average qualifying result of 2.14, whilst Lando Norris has the
second best at 3.29. The Briton has often made crucial mistakes in
the final part of qualifying, impacting his result and starting
position, as a result. His biggest qualifying error came in Saudi
Arabia, where Norris crashed on his first hot lap in Q3. Norris
qualified in 10th at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and has qualified
outside the top three on three occasions – Piastri has started
outside the top three just once. Despite Red Bull's numerous
issues with the RB21, Max Verstappen's average qualifying position
is only narrowly lower than Norris', coming in at 3.5. Verstappen
has four pole positions to his name this year, the best of which
came in Suzuka and Silverstone. On the other side of the garage,
Yuki Tsunoda has been eliminated in Q1 four times across the last
eight grands prix, with his average qualifying result being 12.36 –
the 12th best overall. The only other driver with an average
qualifying result better than fifth is Mercedes' George Russell,
who boasts an result of 4.43. Charles Leclerc follows closely on
5.14. It is then a drop of almost three positions to Lewis
Hamilton in sixth, who despite having claimed 104 pole positions,
has an average qualifying result this season of 8.0. With scores
of 9.21 and 9.93, respectively, Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar are
the only other drivers to have qualified on average across the
season within the top 10. At the bottom, Alpine's Franco Colapinto
holds 21st place, due to an average qualifying result of 16.38,
although Nico Hulkenberg is only marginally ahead on 16.14.
Interestingly, Hulkenberg's team-mate, Gabriel Bortoleto, holds
15th place on 14.43. Looking back at Alpine's situation with
Colapinto, Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan's average qualifying
results are 12.43 and 15.5, respectively. Check out each driver's
