Max Verstappen left former Top Gear presenter Chris Harris stunned
in a recent video shoot for Ford Performance, where the Dutchman
delivered an "eye-opening" experience. The four-time world
champion filmed a video with Harris in Ford's brand-new GTD,
testing the American manufacturer's newest car. Harris was left in
awe of what Verstappen was able to immediately do in the car, with
the 27-year-old's driving skills having been instantly visible.
Driving cars quickly is something Harris does for a living as a
motoring journalist and professional racing driver, due to often
having just a matter of laps to extract as much performance from a
car as possible. However, according to the 50-year-old, Verstappen
surpassed his own technical level within a matter of seconds has he
approached his first corner in the GTD. Ahead of the filming shoot,
Harris was advised on what Verstappen's driving ability was like,
but all expectations were exceeded beyond imagination. "He was
everything people had told me he would be," Harris said on his
podcast, Chris Harris on Cars. "The first lap out in the GTD was
eye opening. I reckon... how do I say this without sound like a
knob? "My job for the last 25 years has been to get in things with
very little experience of what they are on circuits I don't know,
and go quite quickly straight away, because I've normally got three
laps to get it done. "What he did out the box is quite a bit
beyond what I can do. He just got in it, and into the first braking
zone I think he was plus/minus one metre at the maximum of what the
car would do into that corner. "I don't think there was any
leeway, and that was the first corner we came to. So it's an
absolute privilege to witness that level of skill that close up."
