Mick Schumacher has confirmed a seat in the IndyCar series is an
option for him in 2026. The German had his first taste of the
American category on Monday as he took part in a test with Rahal
Letterman Lanigan Racing. Schumacher drove around the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway road course as he explored a potential route back to
single-seater racing next year. "It's been good to get to know the
car, get to know the team," Schumacher told media including
RacingNews365 . "I think we really managed to get through all the
run plan and all the test items we wanted to do. "We're stoked
about what the lap times are doing. It wasn't a main target, but
still, it went pretty well." The 26-year-old was dropped by the
Haas F1 team at the end of the 2022 campaign and has since raced in
the World Endurance Championship with Alpine. However, he has not
raced in single-seater competition since his exit from the F1 grid.
Drawing on a quote from his seven-time F1 champion father Michael,
Schumacher highlighted that he feels he belongs in single-seater
racing. "It being similar to a single seater, or it being a single
seater - that's really what is kind of attracting me to it," he
said. "I love having open wheels. I think one of the things my dad
always said was 'the Schumacher's are usually faster if they can
see their wheels'. "I do like that quote. It's just the appeal of
racing 17 times a year." "In terms of what I'm doing in 2026, it's
very open. Obviously, the options are all there. "IndyCar is one of
them. So I really just wanted to know what it was, so that I can
make my mind up. "I have different options, so there's good
potential. It's about me now, trying to figure out what I want to
do, and if this is one thing that I would consider for long term."
