Audi has poached Max Verstappen's number one mechanic, Matt Caller,
as it continues to build up its team, RacingNews365 can confirm.
With the Ingolstadt concern ramping up preparations ahead of its
first F1 campaign in 2026, F1 personnel with strong experience are
being recruited, with Audi also luring two engine engineers from
Ferrari to help its in-house project. New boss Jonathan Wheatley,
himself a former Red Bull sporting director, has identified
Verstappen's long-serving number one mechanic Caller as an ideal
figure to bring such expertise, with the Briton being pinched from
Milton Keynes, and will join the Hinwil-based outfit for 2026.
Caller has served as number one mechanic since 2022, and initially
joined Red Bull in 2015. It is the second time the team has taken a
senior Red Bull mechanic, with Lee Stevenson joining Stake in early
2024 to serve as chief mechanic, with it understood Caller would
replace Stevenson, who is set for promotion into a more senior
position.
