Lando Norris has admitted he was battling "a lot of stress" during
his fight with Oscar Piastri during the Austrian Grand Prix. Norris
came under pressure from Piastri in the early stages of the race,
with the latter attacking his team-mate for the leading position.
The scrap was put on hold during the pit stop phase of the race,
with Norris' earlier stop allowing him to eke out a gap. However,
with fresher tyres, Piastri closed in as the laps ticked down -
however the Australian couldn't mount a serious challenge for the
lead in the final tours of the track. "We had a great battle,
that's for sure," Norris said. "It was a lot of fun. For me, there
was a lot of stress, but a lot of fun. "A nice battle, well done to
Oscar. Hopefully it was a nice one for everyone to watch but inside
the car, it was tough. "Especially when he was in the DRS, the DRS
is so big around here it was hard to get him out of the gap. "Once
I did, I could manage things pretty well. But he was still quick,
so it was good fun." With McLaren taking its fourth 1-2 finish of
the season, it has extended its advantage atop the standings to 207
points. "It was a perfect result for us as a team," Norris added.
"A one-two is exactly what we want. We did it again, so I'm very
happy."
