Lando Norris insists that "anyone can be a hero" after his Austrian
Grand Prix pole lap, and that he must now show this form for the
remainder of the season. Norris has been dominant at the Red Bull
Ring and demolished the field to take pole by over half a second
from Charles Leclerc, in the widest pole margin of the season thus
far. Norris was under huge pressure coming into the weekend after
colliding with team-mate Oscar Piastri in Canada, taking himself
out of the race and allowing Piastri to extend his points lead to
22 as the season approaches the halfway mark. Reflecting on the
performance, which he rated better than his Monaco pole lap, Norris
explained how he now needed to carry this performance forward for
the rest of the season. "It is very satisfying, but, again, it's
about consistency," Norris told media, including RacingNews365.
"Everyone can be a hero in one weekend, but it's progress, it's
steps forward. I'm very happy, but it's still a long journey. It's
a long season. "The job I needed to do, I did, but it doesn't make
up for the last few weekends or anything, but I did it, and that's
what mattered. "On the whole, it was easily my best qualifying of
the year from a delivery point of view, from every single lap I
did. I still made a couple of mistakes here and there, but none
that cost me a lap or anything, just maybe a tenth here or half a
tenth there. "I think on deliveries, consistency and of course
putting it in when it counts in Q3 was easily the best lap I've
done for this whole season, probably even better than Monaco,
honestly. "It was not as exciting a lap as Monaco, but definitely
a better put-together lap than I did there. "I think it showed
that when I have the feeling, well, it's still not all there, but
more there than before, I can have a day like this. "So, I think
that's reassuring for me, which is a very nice feeling, but it's
still about consistency. This is one weekend, I've got to do it for
another, what, 12 or 13 or something."
