Liam Lawson equalled his season-worst qualifying performance at the
Italian Grand Prix, after making a crucial error. The Racing Bulls
driver was in the danger zone heading onto the final runs in Q1,
but had his lap-time deleted for a track limits violation at the
first Lesmo. Turning into the fast right-hander, Lawson's Racing
Bulls machine drifted out wide, and he was lucky to avoid snapping
into the barriers, but was eliminated as slowest of all. His
official time was a 1:20.279, and was joined by team-mate Isack
Hadjar in 16th, Lance Stroll in 17th, Franco Colapinto in 18th and
Pierre Gasly in 19th. Not since the Chinese GP in March, his
second and final race for Red Bull, has Lawson qualified slowest
for a grand prix.
