Liam Lawson has addressed the minor clash he had with Yuki Tsunoda
during the Italian Grand Prix. The pair were battling at the back
of the field after making their pit stops, with both running the
hard compound tyre. Tsunoda defended his position into Turn 4 while
Lawson drew alongside, resulting in contact between the duo. Both
drivers continued across the escape road before Lawson handed the
position back to Tsunoda, having moved ahead after the incident
occurred. Explaining the situation, Lawson told media including
RacingNews365 : "There was nothing really to it. "He passed me into
one, I tried to pass him back into four, and I had no room on the
right-hand side, so we touched into to the chicane, and then I gave
the place back." Lawson ended the race in 14th place, marking his
lowest classified result since the Imola race earlier this year.
Having started the grand prix from the back of the field, Lawson
explained Racing Bulls opted to gamble with a set of soft tyres at
the start - a decision that failed to produce a strong result. "The
race was frustrating. We tried to start on softs and gamble a
little bit, and it didn't really work," Lawson admitted. "So
sometimes it's like that. The car has been fast this weekend, but
it's a shame to walk away with no points. "Obviously it's positive
to go forward into the next few races with a fast car."
