Liam Lawson has highlighted the benefit of returning to a series of
tracks he has experience at as he seeks clarity over his F1 future.
Lawson's position on the F1 grid has not been confirmed beyond the
current season. The New Zealander was demoted back to Racing Bulls
after two challenging opening rounds with the senior Red Bull
squad. Although he has scored points at half of the previous eight
races, his seat for next year has not been guaranteed. Lawson
returned to an F1 drive last year in the USA after replacing Daniel
Ricciardo in the final stint of the campaign. Having already had a
taste of the circuits coming up on the schedule, Lawson is hopeful
he can use the experience to his advantage. "It's tracks that I
enjoy, tracks that I look forward to going to," Lawson told media
including RacingNews365 . "At the same time, I have to try and
treat every weekend the same, which is what I do. "So as much as
I'm excited to be here, I'm looking forward to a track I very much
enjoy driving. "I'll enjoy it, the first few laps in practice and
going into qualifying, especially when you're in a position where
the car is hooked up and you feel good, that's obviously what we're
trying to achieve this weekend. "And if we can do that, then I'm
sure I'll enjoy it." With various drivers in contention to line up
at Racing Bulls next season, Lawson is under pressure to bring home
results and swing the decision in his favour. Having been part of
the Red Bull programme for several years, Lawson is no stranger to
the scrutiny that comes with the role. "Honestly, it's all I know.
So it's very hard for me to say whether it would be easier in a
different [team]," he said. "Red Bull is very unique in the way the
programme has been, but it's all I know."
