Williams team principal James Vowles has revealed an appetite to tackle an endurance race with his F1 pairing Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon following a productive two-day GT3 test in Spain.

From GT3 test to endurance plan

The test, designed to broaden skillsets and strengthen team cohesion, has sparked Vowles’ interest in exploring a competitive endurance event with his drivers. Sainz arrives on the back of a podium in Baku, while Albon has been a consistent force and a team leader at Grove.

Why it matters

Modern F1 programmes increasingly tap into multi-category running to enhance adaptability, tyre and traffic management, and race craft. A GT-based endurance outing would allow Williams to leverage those gains while building chemistry away from the F1 spotlight.

What’s next

No specific event has been named, but the intent is clear: use momentum from the GT3 work to explore a real-world endurance challenge when calendars and commitments allow.
