Portimao WorldSSP, FP1 Results | Navarro starts the day on top, McPhee inside the top ten

Jorge Navarro has started the second half of the World Supersport Championship how he means to continue. The Spanish rider topped Free Practice One at Portimao ahead of his Italian rivals.
The second half of the World Supersport Championship is underway in Portugal at the Portimao Circuit. This is the first of two times the World Superbike paddock will race in Portugal this season. Coming into the second half of 2024 Adrian Huertas leads the way in the World Supersport Championship.
Jorge Navarro currently sits just outside of the top five in the WorldSSP Championship. In a hunt to get a top-five spot in the standings, the Spaniard started his day off right in Portimao by topping FP1.
Rounding out a Ducati 1-2 was Yari Montella. The Italian is second in the Championship on his Barni Spark Racing Ducati. He has a lot of work to do this weekend to claw back the 46-point deficit to the Championship leader.
The top Yamaha rider in FP1 is Stefano Manzi in third. The Italian rider is seven points behind Monetlla in the Championship. This weekend will be crucial for Manzi and the Ten Kate Team if they want to stay in the Championship hunt.
Federico Caricasulo is the top MV Agusta rider as he starts his day in fourth place. Despite being well out of the Championship fight Caricasulo can still claim the spot as the top MV Agust rider this season.
The Championship leader, Adrian Huertas, starts his day down in fifth place. This is not a position that will bother the Spaniard due to his 46-point lead over Monetlla in the standings.
Valentin Debise is just outside the top five in the opening session as he finished sixth place on his Evan Bros Yamaha R6. Just behind Debise is fellow Frenchman, Lucas Mahias, on the GMT94 Yamaha.
John McPhee is the top Triumph and top British rider in FP1. McPhee has not had an easy first half of the season and will look to improve on his results this weekend after a positive start.
Completing the top ten is Marcel Schroetter in ninth and Nicollo Antonelli in tenth. The MV Agusta rider of Schroetter will want to Qualify better than ninth later today to give him the best chance to retain his top-five spot in the standings. However, Antonelli will be happy with tenth place as he lies 15th in the standings.
