Electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian adjusted its production guidance for 2024 this week, along with hinting at problems with the supply of one crucial component.

Rivian has reduced its annual production guidance to a range of 47,000 to 49,000 vehicles, down from an initial target of 57,000, as detailed in a press release on Friday. The release also offered some insight into recent production problems at the company’s Normal, Illinois factory due to a worsening parts shortage that affects both its vans and R1 vehicles.

The company has been facing an issue with the supply of one key component in both vehicle platforms, and it says that the problem has worsened in recent weeks and will continue. Still, Rivian did keep to its annual delivery outlook, reiterating a range of 50,500 to 52,000 deliveries expected for the year.

At the time of writing, Rivian has not yet responded to Teslarati’s request for comment on current expectations for when the parts shortage could be resolved.

Rivian will release its financials for Q3 and hold an earnings call on November 7, and it should also detail how the company is doing in its efforts to reach profitability. In Q1, Rivian reported losing around $38,784 per vehicle sold, as followed by about $32,705 in the second quarter.

In addition to reducing its annual production guidance, the company reported delivering 10,018 vehicles and producing 13,157 in the third quarter. Rivian was also reportedly facing a parts shortage in August that caused the company to pause van production, though it’s not yet clear if this is the same or a related issue.

The issues come just as Rivian has been eager to start ramping up van production in preparation for commercial sales beyond Amazon, and after the company gained approval to begin expanding the Illinois factory for production of the upcoming R2 platform.
