Ferrari is close to confirming the future of team boss Fred Vasseur
at the squad. Following an impressive campaign last year that saw
Ferrari challenge for the constructors' championship until the
final round of the season, the Italian squad entered the new season
hoping to take further steps. However, it has not been a factor in
the title fight as rivals McLaren have eked out a large gap to the
rest of the competition, winning 10 of the 13 rounds staged so far.
Ferrari is the only team inside the top four that has not yet won a
race this year, and its deficit to McLaren is already over 200
points. The poor run of form led to speculation over the future of
Vasseur, who joined Ferrari as team boss in early 2023. Vasseur's
contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025 season. However,
the Italian branch of motorsport.com reports that an extension for
Vasseur is near. The deal has not been signed yet, but the
Frenchman is expected to soon put pen to paper. That decision would
be aimed at stability for the 2026 regulation change, when new
power units and chassis threaten to shake up the pecking order. The
period will be a serious test for Vasseur, who is seeking to return
championship glory to Ferrari for the first time since the late
2000s.
