Franco Colapinto has been left on the brink of a grid penalty following changes made to his Alpine going into the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The team has opted to make power unit component changes on Colapinto's car, notably the addition of a fourth turbocharger and MGU-H. This is the limit allowed for the season. Although this is Colapinto's first race for Alpine, after replacing the demoted Jack Doohan following the recent Miami Grand Prix, the Argentinian inherits the PU changes previously made to the car when it was driven by the Australian. It means with a fourth TC and MGU-H, any further changes will trigger an automatic grid penalty. Colapinto has also taken on a third internal combustion engine, and a third MGU-K. As with the TC and MGU-H, four of each component is the limit for a campaign. Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly has also had fitted a third MGU-K.
