Lewis Hamilton has called on Ferrari to switch its focus to the
2026 car in an effort to start the new season on a strong note.
Fresh technical regulations will be introduced next year with major
changes coming to both the chassis and power units. Ferrari has not
been enjoying an overly successful campaign and sits as the only
team in the top four yet to secure a grand prix win, while Hamilton
is still awaiting his first podium in red. With McLaren holding
comfortable leads in the drivers' and constructors' standings,
Hamilton does not see anyone catching the Woking-based squad.
"Compared to McLaren, I don't think anyone's catching them,"
Hamilton told media including RacingNews365 . "Never say never.
"Hopefully with our next upgrade, hopefully that works the way we
hope it works. "Maybe that will bring us a bit closer. We're not a
minute down this weekend, which is great." With such vast changes
coming for next year, it presents an opportunity for one team to
possess a large advantage over the rest of the competition. As
Hamilton goes in chase of a record-breaking eighth F1 title, the
Briton is hopeful Ferrari will switch resources to net year's car.
"We should be fully focused in terms of development onto next
year's car," he said. "I am sure all the teams are doing that
already. I know Mercedes have already focused on next year. The key
is going to be developing that engine. "Making sure whoever comes
up with the right philosophy suspension-wise and everything. "I'm
trying to work with the engineers to make sure we rectify some of
the issues with this car because there's a few problems that need
fixing next year."
