McLaren Formula E has released a statement following a deadly fire at Bicester Motion – formerly known as Bicester Heritage. It is a former RAF facility used by the papaya outfit for its FE operations, and is also home to several engineering and classic car restoration businesses. A deadly blaze erupted on Thursday evening, with smoke having been visible by members of the public several miles away. The scene was reached by 10 fire crews; however, it was confirmed by Oxfordshire County council that two firefighters were killed, whilst two others are in hospital after sustaining serious injuries. A close friend of the facility has also passed away. "It is with a very heavy heart that we today report the loss of two of our firefighters," stated chief fire officer Rob MacDougall, as quoted by the BBC . "Families have been informed and are being supported." Details of the firefighters who sadly lost their lives tackling the fire are yet to be released, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer having sent his thoughts to those impacted. "Devastating news," Starmer stated on X . "My thoughts are with their families and friends. The bravery of our firefighters is astounding. Hoping those in hospital make a full and swift recovery." McLaren's FE team are currently in Tokyo for this weekend's double-header in the Japanese capital, and have also released a statement addressing the situation. McLaren's statement read: "We are extremely saddened to hear about the fatalities and injuries as a result of the fire at Bicester Motion last night. "We are immensely grateful for the bravery and commitment of the Emergency Services, and our thoughts are with the families at this difficult time." The fire is reportedly under control.
