2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg believes Oscar Piastri has "no
weaknesses" in the ongoing title fight, a prospect that is "scary"
for McLaren team-mate Lando Norris. Piastri holds a 16-point lead
over Norris in the battle for the championship, a margin he
extended following his victory at the Belgian Grand Prix last
weekend. The Australian has taken a notable step forward this year,
having been outpaced by Norris across their first two seasons
together at McLaren. His progression has taken Rosberg by surprise,
who suggested Piastri is better equipped to win the title this
year. "Oscar is super strong. He has surprised me," Rosberg told
the Sky F1 podcast. "We all knew he was a great driver, but last
year, Lando still had the edge. This year, Oscar is just incredibly
solid, strong and fast. "There are no weaknesses there, which is a
bit scary for Lando, because Lando does have weaknesses." Piastri
took his sixth win of the season last weekend at Spa-Francorchamps
after completing an early-race overtake on his team-mate in wet
conditions. In the latter stages of the grand prix, Norris closed
in on Piastri, but a handful of mistakes hurt his pursuit. "You saw
them [mistakes] again in Spa, you saw them at the restart," Rosberg
added. "He made three big mistakes in trying to catch Oscar, three
times. "He was off in Pouhon, he locked up in the Turn 1 and
there's another one that I can't remember. "There were three major
mistakes which cost him up to four seconds of race time, which was
exactly the difference between having a shot at fighting for the
win in the last lap of the race or not. "That's always his
weakness. He keeps on making little mistakes. "It's really
impressive what Oscar is doing, and not easy for Lando to not easy
to win this."
