“2023 Ferrari car has already been developed and produced by Mattia Binotto’s team” – report

The news is not official yet, but it seems only a matter of time until we will receive the confirmation and – above all – the whole context, media and not only, that revolves around the world of the Prancing Horse already acts as if it had already arrived. Mattia Binotto will no longer be Ferrari’s team principal in 2023.

There are clues about the most likely replacement, current Alfa Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur, and who will probably be called upon to manage the Scuderia for a few weeks until Frederic Vasseur will be released by Alfa Romeo – the chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna – but what is missing at the moment is clarity on what will be the direction taken from January 2023 onwards to try to finally achieve the final goal of winning the Formula 1 world titles, which have been missing since the two-year period 2007-2008.

In today’s edition of the Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Mario Salvini made an analysis of the main issues encountered by the Maranello team in recent years, also underlining how yet another change at the top could easily slow down Scuderia Ferrari’s progress and attempt to return to the top:

“[…]. The 2023 Formula 1 car was developed and produced by Mattia Binotto’s team […]. Any changes could lead to setbacks, as usually happens when there is a change at the top. […]. Reliability and developments: it is certainly an aspect which cannot affect Ferrari as was the case during the 2022 Formula 1 season […]. Nor is it conceivable that in order not to run into that kind of trouble one has to compromise on performance. […]” – Mario Salvini pointed out.

“Roles and Team: Mattia Binotto has […] held the position of technical director together with that of team principal. […] for the future it would be appropriate to go back to having distinct figures […]. Two big issues arose during 2022. Both certainly not to Ferrari’s advantage. The Technical Directive 39 […]. And the Budget Cap Gate […]. […] John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna seemed a bit distant, publicly, from their team principal. […] A premise: Carlos Sainz is a resource. […]. That being said, [..] it is unlikely to think that […] it will be possible to win big […] It will therefore be necessary to have a reference driver, a clear number one […]. And it seems difficult to imagine that it will not be Charles Leclerc” – Mario Salvini concluded in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
