Spanish sports journalist and television presenter Antonio Lobato, especially known for his television broadcasts of Formula 1 in Spain on various channels, has emphasized that Carlos Sainz’s recent performances with Scuderia Ferrari prove he’s currently at his peak. Carlos Sainz’s remarkable victory last weekend in the Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay street circuit, where he became the first non-Red Bull driver to win in the 2023 Formula 1 campaign, showcased his strategic brilliance in handling the challenges posed by rivals like Lando Norris, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc.
Antonio Lobato believes that Carlos Sainz deserves all the accolades for his impressive achievements, including building a substantial 19-point lead over his Scuderia Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in the championship standings, ahead of the next round of the season, the Japaense Grand Prix.
“Carlos embraced the risk,” the Spanish sports journalist pointed out after the Singapore Grand Prix – “What he has done keeping Lando under one second to keep giving him the DRS so that he could defend from the Mercedes cars, that includes being confident that you could handle the pressure if Norris pushes. He was very smart, he was perfect from beginning to end. I think we are witnessing the strongest Carlos Sainz ever.” – he added.
Over the last two races, Carlos Sainz has transformed Ferrari’s lackluster season into a promising one for 2024. Despite Ferrari’s regression compared to their 2022 performance, Sainz has secured back-to-back pole positions and a third-place finish at Monza, along with the much-needed Singapore Grand Prix victory. They are now just 24 points behind Mercedes in the race for second place in the constructors’ championship, a significant achievement considering Red Bull’s dominant season. Being recognized as the top team behind Red Bull is a remarkable accomplishment for the Maranello-based team.
The focus now shifts to the Japanese Grand Prix, where Carlos Sainz will hope to continue the positive moment as Ferrari look to further reduce the gap to Mercedes in the battle for P2 behind Red Bull.
