Red Bull junior Pepe Marti secured victory in a heavily-delayed and
red-flagged F2 sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix. On lap two,
the race was red-flagged after Sami Meguetounif rolled across the
top of Luke Browning after contact with Arvid Lindblad at Turn 3,
the Trident coming to rest upside down. Fortunately everyone was
okay and uninjured, with a safety car then called after the rolling
start after Dino Beganovic was tipped into a Turn 3 spin by Oliver
Goethe. Once the timed race finally got going for real, Joshua
Durksen was leading, but on lap 18, was passed by Red Bull junior
Marti, who subsequently pulled away from an easy win. Durksen
finished second, with Roman Stanek third after a final lap incident
involving multiple cars. Amaury Cordeel tried to go around the
outside of Durksen and Stanek at Turn 3, but spun his Rodin,
collecting John Bennett, Leonardo Fornaroli, and Gabriele Mini,
robbing all of a points finish. The main beneficiary of this was
McLaren junior Alex Dunne, who had started third and had an
eventful race. He was handed a five-second time penalty for a false
start, but following the final lap incident, was still able to
finish in the points, earning sixth place and three points. There
were 13 finishers overall, with Kush Maini a lapped 17th,
explaining why he was classified behind the Cordeel, Bennett,
Fornaroli, and Mini group despite the fact they did not finish and
Maini did. Spielberg F2 Sprint Race Results
