Esteban Ocon believes the collision with team-mate Ollie Bearman in
the British GP cost both drivers a points finish as he revealed
'clear-the-air' talks. At Silverstone, Bearman locked up going
into Brooklands off the dry racing line in the wet conditions, and
collected the sister Haas car of Ocon. Bearman did not receive a
time penalty, as both cars finished within seven seconds of
10th-placed George Russell, with Bearman 1.4s behind in 11th as
Ocon took 13th. On a day Haas's big rival, Stake, scored a bumper
15 points through Nico Hulkenberg's podium and the likes of
Williams and Alpine scoring points as well, Haas walked away
empty-handed. Reflecting, Ocon felt the "no hiding" approach
demonstrated by the meeting was beneficial for the team. "We
discussed it with Ayao and Ollie, and we know that we should not be
in these positions," Ocon told media, including RacingNews365. "We
both had a difficult race at different stages of the weekend, and
we should not have been in that position at first, and it was
tricky conditions as well. "Probably if we didn't have that touch,
we both would have scored points, so we realised we can't waste
these kinds of opportunities, and it was very straightforward. "It
was a very clear discussion, and there is a very good atmosphere in
the team, and there is no hiding, and we are working together
towards the same goal, so that is the most important thing." As for
Bearman, he explained Haas had measures in place so it "never
happens again." "There are no hard feelings," Bearman added "It was
an unfortunate one, and with a wet track, in any other scenario, it
would not have been a problem. "But with one racing line, the way
it worked out with how we were on track, it resulted in contact,
and of course, we don't want that between team-mates. "We have put
things in place so that it never happens again."
