Helmut Marko has explained how his bold prediction regarding Max
Verstappen came true in qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
After a difficult Friday where the RB21 suffered with low-speed
understeer, Verstappen elected to make some rear-wing changes and
was able to take the car to pole position by 0.103s from Oscar
Piastri in second. It is his 44th pole overall, equalling the Red
Bull record of Sebastian Vettel, as Marko explained how the "Max
factor" was added to the car. "We knew on Friday that we would be
up front if we could get the understeer under control and find more
balance," Marko told Sky DE . "That was evident from the long runs.
We got the car right gradually and with only relatively minor
adjustments. "Of course, then the Max factor was added to that.
"In contrast to Austria, the upgrades have delivered much more now.
"We know it's not so easy to tune these cars when new parts come
in. We did a good job and are very happy with that. It delivers a
nice position."
