McLaren has long maintained it has two 'number one' drivers and
that it will not favour either Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris in the
F1 drivers' championship fight. Following the Canadian Grand Prix,
where the latter crashed into the former, there have been
increasing calls for the constructors' champion to throw its weight
behind the Australian driver, with the threat of Red Bull's Max
Verstappen still looming large in third. Piastri holds a 22-point
advantage over Norris with 10 of the 24-round F1 schedule in the
books. The Dutchman is a further 21 points back. Last season, even
as the British driver chased down the now-four-time F1 drivers'
champion in the title hunt, the papaya outfit insisted on parity
between its two drivers until considerably later in the campaign.
This year, McLaren is adamant it wants to let the team-mates race ,
under the guidance of papaya rules, of course. And while the
general consensus is that it is way too early in the calendar to
consider team orders, Ralf Schumacher believes a choice to back
Piastri has already been made internally at the Woking squad. It is
beginning to become a polarising subject, and will only grow more
divided as the season progresses and the championship fight
intensifies, but what do F1 fans think of the situation? Let us
know what you think McLaren should do by commenting and by voting
