F1 has reported staggering opening weekend figures for the new film
starring Brad Pitt. Titled F1: The Movie, the film, which features
Lewis Hamilton as a producer, charts the story of Sonny Hayes, a
retired driver who is coaxed out of retirement to help his friend's
APX Grand Prix team. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph
Kosinski, with Jerry Bruckheimer also involved, the film had its
global premiere after the Canadian Grand Prix in New York, and was
attended by most of the drivers. The film was released globally
ahead of the Austrian GP last weekend, with F1 reporting that the
global opening weekend has received $144m at the box office, with
the film being ranked #1 in more than 3,600 locations worldwide. F1
has reported that it is the biggest three-day opening weekend for
an original film since the COVID pandemic, and is the biggest
opening for Apple Original Films. Outside of the US and Canada, it
is reported as being shown on more than 44,000 screens and in some
78 markets. On the film reviewing website Rotten Tomatoes, the film
has a 97% Audience Score and an 83% Certified Fresh Critics Score.
