In large parts of Europe, temperatures are rising to tropical
levels this weekend and Austria is no exception. During the grand
prix, which starts at 3 PM local time, it will be roughly 31
degrees at the Red Bull Ring. Despite the occasional pile of
clouds drifting by, the sun is also shining with strength and heat
up the asphalt, creating a headache for the teams and drivers as
they attempt to manage their tyres. McLaren is known to be able
cope with the hotter temperatures more than its rivals, given it an
advantage for the race. Does anyone have an answer for the
Woking-based squad? We will soon find out. But it is not only the
drivers and teams who have to take the heat into account. The
spectators present should also prepare. Even at the end of the
afternoon, around 4 PM local time the sun's intensity is still high
with a UV index of 6 or 7, which can burn unprotected skin in as
little as 10 to 20 minutes.
