Formula 3 introduces €1 million prize fund to accelerate promotion to Formula 2

Formula 3 has announced a major financial initiative: starting from 2025, the top five drivers in the Championship will share a €1 million prize fund designed to help them step up to Formula 2. The allocation is set at €300,000 for the champion, €250,000 for second, €200,000 for third, €150,000 for fourth and €100,000 for fifth.

A key condition applies: the financial award is only paid if the driver is promoted to F2. Should a driver not make the move, the prize is reassigned down the order based on the final standings. This fund comes in addition to the existing Pirelli €300,000 prize already awarded to the F3 champion.

Why it matters

Bridging the gap from F3 to F2 is a substantial financial challenge, regardless of talent. By underwriting part of that step, the series aims to ensure more of its most promising drivers can continue their climb up the single-seater pyramid.

Official reactions

“The Formula 3 one-million-euro prize fund is an important initiative that will further incentivise drivers and provide them with a very valuable and well-deserved reward for their success in the Championship.” — Stefano Domenicali
“I am pleased to announce this million-euro fund, which will benefit the five highest-placed Formula 3 drivers, alongside the substantial prize offered by our partner, Pirelli, which goes to the Champion. It is vital to support emerging talent on their road to Formula 1.” — Bruno Michel

The fund reinforces F3’s role within the FIA single-seater ladder, emphasising technical, physical and mental preparation as drivers target the top tier of motorsport.
