Leclerc laments Ferrari’s 'stupid' wing gamble and painful lack of answers in Singapore

Charles Leclerc cut a frustrated figure after qualifying only seventh for the Singapore Grand Prix, admitting he resorted to a “stupid” late set-up gamble on front wing angle in a bid to rotate the car. The attempt backfired, exposing a deeper problem: Ferrari has yet to find a consistent operating window for the SF-25 on a circuit where the Scuderia traditionally expects more.

No consistency, no confidence

Leclerc said he could not discover a “way out” of the car’s unpredictability over one lap, with understeer on one run flipping to oversteer on the next — and new tyres delivering a completely different feel to used rubber. The Monegasque acknowledged the situation isn’t enjoyable but vowed to keep pushing to drag Ferrari back to the front.

Constructors’ picture gets tighter

Ferrari’s slump has real consequences. After slipping behind Mercedes in Baku, the team is now only narrowly ahead of Red Bull in the fight for third. With George Russell on pole and Max Verstappen also starting up front, Singapore threatens to deepen the points deficit unless Ferrari can turn race pace into damage limitation.

For Leclerc — who counts both Baku and Singapore among his favourite tracks — the lack of pace and consistency has been an unwelcome surprise. The task now is to stabilise the car’s behaviour and stop the rot before the midfield battle tightens further.
