Grosjean set for Mugello TPC outing with Haas

Romain Grosjean will climb back into Haas Formula 1 machinery on Friday at Mugello, taking the wheel of the team’s 2023 car in a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) run. Team principal Ayao Komatsu will act as his engineer for the Italian outing, underscoring the personal and sporting significance of the day for both driver and team.

A first F1 run since Bahrain 2020

The Mugello test marks Grosjean’s first time back in an F1 car since his horrific accident at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. A cornerstone of Haas in its early years, the Franco-Swiss driver joined the American outfit in 2016 and scored 104 points across five seasons before departing at the end of 2020.

Why Mugello, why now?

Mugello’s fast, flowing layout in Tuscany is a stern test of commitment and car balance, making it a fitting venue for a high-speed reacquaintance with modern F1 machinery. Running a 2023-spec Haas provides a representative platform without the constraints of current-season development, allowing driver and team to focus on feel, procedures and execution.

  • Team: Haas F1 Team
  • Engineer on the day: Ayao Komatsu (Team Principal)
  • Car: 2023 Haas F1 (TPC programme)

Beyond the symbolism, the outing offers a practical opportunity for a seasoned Haas alumnus to turn laps, reconnect with the team environment and deliver feedback in a known reference car.
