Yuki Tsunoda has been reprimanded after a bizarre incident in the
Bahrain Grand Prix pit-lane involving Alex Albon. The Red Bull
driver was making his way out of the pit-lane when he was forced to
jink out of the fast-lane into the slow-lane to pass Albon who had
been released in front of him by Williams. Under the notes issued
by race director Rui Marques, this is prohibited, with Tsunoda
summarily summoned to account for his actions. In their verdict,
the stewards found that Tsunoda saw Albon leaving his garage and
felt that if he locked up to avoid the Williams, he could have
crashed into the back of it. This was accepted by the stewards,
who then noted that after avoiding Albon, Tsunoda should have
dropped back behind him, reminding Tsunoda that overtaking "is
prohibited" in the pit-lane unless in "extraordinary circumstances"
which this was deemed not to be. The stewards also found that
Albon was not released into the path of Tsunoda unsafely, with on
penalty being awarded.
