Danilo Petrucci is a doubt for the upcoming third round of the 2024 WorldSBK Championship after suffering injuries in an accident while motocross training in Italy.

The former MotoGP rider sustained fractures to his jaw and collarbone after misjudging a jump while riding motocross.

Remaining conscious throughout the incident, Petrucci - riding the Barni Spark Racing Ducati for what is his second season in the WorldSBK Championship - was taken to Cingoli Hospital in his native Italy to undergo surgery.

Writing on Instagram, he said: "During a motocross training at the Cingoli track, I lost control of the motorbike before a jump and therefore instead of braking the motorbike accelerated.

"I jumped a lot and crashed to the ground. It was one of the scariest falls of my life.

"I broke some teeth, my jaw in two parts, my collarbone and my shoulder blade as well as various skin lacerations. Thank you for all the messages, I hope to smile again soon."

The incident makes him a doubt for the upcoming Assen WorldSBK round. Barni Spark Racing are yet to announce if and who could replace him on the Ducati Panigale V4 R.
