Charles Leclerc has picked up one penalty point from the FIA
stewards following his defence against George Russell in the
Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver was suffering from
chassis damage, unbeknownst to him, as his pace worsened, as
Russell closed in and mounted an attack for third place. On Lap 61
of 70, Leclerc moved heavily to defend his position into the Turn 1
braking zone, leading to Russell to exclaim the Monegasque had
moved under braking. The Mercedes easily scythed past the Ferrari
in the same place on Lap 62, with Leclerc picking up a five-second
time penalty for his trouble. However, the stewards have now
decided that this was not punishment enough, with Leclerc being
awarded one penalty point on his super licence for "erratic
driving." It is his first point for the 12-month period.
Elsewhere, Pierre Gasly finished 17th on the road, but was
classified 19th and last for a 10-second time penalty for a
collision with Carlos Sainz at Turn 4. For causing a collision,
Gasly was awarded two penalty points, taking him to two for the
