Kimi Antonelli has been slapped with a third penalty by Dutch Grand
Prix stewards after a messy Zandvoort race. The Italian was running
strongly in the points and made a second pit-stop on Lap 53 for a
set of soft tyres to try and undercut Charles Leclerc ahead.
Leclerc responded next time by, emerging just ahead, but at Turn 3,
Antonelli took the low line through the banking, and clipped into
Leclerc, spitting the Ferrari into the barriers and retirement.
Antonelli picked up his first penalty for this, a 10-second one for
causing a collision, but was also pinged for speeding in the
pit-lane. This earned a second penalty, of five seconds, with
Lando Norris's late DNF and safety car spelling disaster for the
Italian. With the field bunched up, Antonelli went from sixth on
the road to 16th in the final results, and has now earned a third
penalty - in the form of penalty points. The FIA stewards found
that Antonelli was "wholly and predominantly" to blame for the
collision which resulted in "significant damage" to Leclerc's car.
As such, two penalty points were added to Antonelli's licence,
taking him to four for the 12-month period.
