Oliver Bearman insists his British Grand Prix practice crash
"should not happen at this level" as he revealed his anger at the
incident. During a red flag for Gabriel Bortoleto's crash in FP3,
Bearman approached the pit-entry at racing speed, and when hitting
the brakes for the pit-entry line, spun his Haas into the barrier,
ripping off and destroying the front-wing. For the seriousness of
the red flag infringement, the stewards took a dim view towards
Bearman, handing him a 10-place grid drop and four penalty points
on his super-licence, taking him to eight for the 12-month period.
The Briton then excelled in qualifying, navigating his Haas through
to Q3 for P8 on the road, which would have been his best-ever grid
position in a grand prix. Reflecting, the rookie expressed his
anger at the situation. "I did not account for the cold brakes and
tyres," Bearman explained after being questioned by RacingNews365
about the circumstances of the accident. "It was a silly error
which should not happen at this level, [using the accelerator] was
just a misjudgment from my side, and it is mixed feelings. "We've
brought an upgrade this weekend, and it is showing potential
because our qualifying pace has not been fantastic recently, and to
be in Q3 on merit is a good feeling, and I only used one set of new
tyres in Q2, which normally only the top teams do. "So actually,
we had a very strong qualifying, and the car was feeling great, the
best it has ever felt, and then I am disappointed because I've let
my team down today. "It is not a relief [to show this pace], I am
still angry at myself and very sad, but I am glad that at least we
could show that we have a quick car qualifying, which hasn't been
the case recently. "I'm really proud of the team for bringing a
successful upgrade. If we have a car which is qualifying in P10, it
means we have a quick race car, as our qualifying car is not as
fast as our race car. "So hopefully that stays, and we can have a
good race." 1941462139522383899 And to round off a hectic end to
