Max Verstappen delivered another outstanding qualifying performance
to land pole position for the British Grand Prix. Seemingly from
nowhere, the four-time F1 champion knocked McLaren's Oscar Piastri
off top spot with the last lap of the top-10 shoot-out with a
1:24.892, beating Piastri by 0.103s. Lando Norris starts third in
his McLaren. Mercedes' George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in his
Ferrari complete the top five. Yuki Tsunoda, meanwhile, suffered
another qualifying failure in his Red Bull after being knocked out
in Q2, setting the 12th quickest time. The first session was
red-flagged with six minutes and 49 seconds remaining after
under-pressure Franco Colapinto slid off the track out of the final
corner in his Alpine, into the gravel, and onto a barrier. Although
he managed to get going again, he later stopped off track, leading
to a delay of 10 minutes for minor barrier repairs, car retrieval
and track cleaning. The final grid will be affected by two
penalties - 10 places for Haas driver Oliver Bearman after failing
to comply with red flags in the final practice session, whilst
Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli will drop three places after crashing into
Verstappen on the opening lap of last Sunday's Austrian GP.
Antonelli and Bearman qualified seventh and eighth respectively.
