Alex Albon has declared he is "happy where I am" at Williams amid
the F1 squad's uptick in performance. The Grove-based outfit looks
on course to finish fifth in the constructors' championship this
year, which would mark its first top-half finish since the 2017
campaign. Albon has scored 70 of Williams' 102 points so far in
2025, but it is team-mate Carlos Sainz who has bagged the squad's
best result. An impressive performance in Baku saw the Spaniard
score Williams' first podium since 2021. Having been part of the
Williams squad for several years, Albon hailed the work being
carried out behind the scenes, which has resulted in its consistent
point-scoring form. "In all honesty, I signed with Williams and
there were elements of good qualities about the team, but it wasn't
always that obvious that the team was going to end up in the
position that has happened and seeing this journey we talk about,"
Albon told media including RacingNews365 . "The bigger shift has
been the last couple of years, where a lot of the big foundational
elements of the team have changed. "It's interesting to me,
because the step from 2023 to 2024, people must have seen that as a
backstep in terms of performance, but actually the ground roots of
the team changed the most at that point. "That's been one of the
biggest steps of all the years I've spent with the team. "What
you're seeing this year comes from a lot of the changes we made a
couple of years ago. I'm happy where I am." Williams appointed
James Vowles as its team principal at the start of 2023, with the
Briton shifting across from a senior position at Mercedes. Albon
hailed the impact Vowles has had on the team, outlining his
strategy to return to the front of the grid as "realistic". "I like
that James is very honest about our weaknesses and strengths as a
team, and it makes the journey believable," he said. "It's not
'next year we're going to be at the very front'. It's a calculated,
realistic plan he has in mind. "So far, it feels like we're on the
road he's explained, and that makes me feel like I'm in a good
place."
