F1, Pirelli: soft tire compounds for Imola, Monaco and Canada

Pirelli has announced the tire selections for the three events following the Miami Grand Prix, namely Imola, Monte Carlo, and Montreal. For all three race weekends, the Italian manufacturer has decided to bring the same selection, focusing on the softest compounds in the range. For Imola, this will be a novelty, unlike for Monaco and Canada.
After Miami, Formula 1 will return to Europe for the first European stops of the season. In mid-May, the sport will move to Imola for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which returns to the calendar after a year’s absence due to the flood that hit the region in 2023.
After the Italian stage comes one of the most prestigious events in the world championship, due to its history and charm, namely the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of the Principality. After returning to Europe, however, Formula 1 will fly to the New Continent, overseas, for what will be the first GP in North America, namely the stage in Canada, in its traditional June slot.
Two of these tracks share the nature of being city circuits, with tight walls and few escape routes, where the driver’s feel with the car becomes crucial, but Imola also adds exciting challenges. It is no coincidence that drivers have always praised the ups and downs of the Italian racing track, thanks to a layout that offers thrills to those behind the wheel.
Pirelli has communicated to the teams and the FIA the selection of compounds for the next three appointments, identical among them. The Milan-based manufacturer has opted for the three softest solutions in the entire range, namely the C3 as hard, the C4 as medium, and the C5 as soft, the softest compound in the range.

Compared to last year, there are no changes, also because the compounds have remained unchanged as no modifications were made despite a C4 with some new features being tested towards the end of last season. However, it was then decided not to alter the range, leaving everything in the same state, which means the teams will have few surprises.
In fact, the softest trio at Imola was not tested last year because the event was canceled at the last minute. In 2022, the only precedent for the 18-inch Pirelli tires at the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari used the C2 as Hard, the C3 as Medium, and the C4 as Soft: therefore, Pirelli has decided to bring tires one step softer than in the past, aligning with a choice to bring generally softer tires to ensure more tactical action.
The main goal is indeed to offer a wider range of strategic options on a track where overtaking is notoriously quite complicated. For Monaco and Montreal, two city circuits characterized by very smooth asphalt, the selection was naturally oriented towards the softest compounds, extensively tested in past years.
