Carlos Sainz’s Penalty Changes the F1 Standings

Following the conclusion of the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, the drivers’ and constructors’ standings will be updated at the first European stage of the championship. The Circus will land in Italy, at Imola, for the weekend concluding on Sunday, May 19. Unlike the Miami weekend, the Emilia Romagna event does not feature the Sprint format, which was used earlier in the season in China and the United States.

The controversial penalty issued by the stewards to Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari during the night changes everything. With the penalty, Carlos Sainz drops from fourth to fifth place. Conversely, Sergio Perez’s Red Bull moves up.

In the championship standings, Carlos Sainz also loses a position to Miami’s winner Lando Norris.
