Mick Schumacher confirms 2023 F1 contract talks with Haas are underway

Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher has confirmed ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix that discussions are now well underway with Haas regarding a contract extension for the 2023 Formula 1 season. After a difficult period in the relationship between the Ferrari junior and his Haas Team Principal Gunther Steiner, both sides now say they are in calmer waters. Gunther Steiner had previously warned the young German driver that he needed to step his game up and avoid other crashes in order to continue alongside the American F1 team. “I never doubted myself,” the son of Formula 1 and Scuderia Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher said at Silverstone on Thursday, during his press conference for the British Grand Prix. At the same time, Mick Schumacher confirmed that contract talks are now taking place between his management and Haas bosses on a regular basis: “Talks are going on every day,” he admitted – “It will probably only go into more detail after or during the summer break.” The Ferrari junior pointed out that all the criticism received in this first part of the 2022 Formula One championship has motivated him to show everyone “more than ever” that he deserves a place on the Formula 1 grid for the next season. Haas boss Gunther Steiner was also interviewed by RTL and added: “What people say, what they say to me and what Mick and I say to each other is always different.” Mick Schumacher’s 2022 teammate Kevin Magnussen, who has had a better start to the current campaign as compared to the German driver, also wanted to defended the Ferrari junior: “He shouldn’t let the criticism get to him. He just has to get the ball rolling, get the momentum, and then it will work,” the experienced 29-year-old explained – “Mick won Formula 3 and Formula 2, he has proved that he deserves a place in Formula 1. He is very talented,” the Danish racing driver continued. Show your support for Scuderia Ferrari with official merchandise collection from Puma! Enter the online Puma Store and shop securely! German professional racing driver, and BMW Motorsport works driver Timo Glock also expressed his confidence that Haas and technical partner Ferrari will eventually agree to give Mick Schumacher the opportunity of racing for Haas in the 2023 Formula 1 season: “Another year at Haas would be the right step for his development,” – the former F1 driver said, according to Sky Deutschland.
